Frequently asked questions
Everything about getting your Interactive Brokers data into PaprBoard, what the numbers mean, and how your data is handled.
Getting Started
What is PaprBoard?
PaprBoard is a personal trading journal and analytics dashboard for Interactive Brokers (IBKR) accounts. You import your IBKR statements and it gives you a detailed breakdown of portfolio performance, daily P&L, open positions, trade history, and lets you journal each trade with notes and tags.
Do I need an IBKR account to try it?
No. When you first arrive you're signed in as a guest with a sample portfolio already loaded, so you can explore every page right away. To see your own numbers, head to Upload Data and import a statement from your IBKR account.
Is PaprBoard free?
You get 30 days of free access to all features; after that it's $5/month or $50/year (2 months free). You can create an account (we only ask for an email, nothing else) or sign in with Google to store your data permanently. Guest sessions are free too, but the data is temporary.
How much does PaprBoard cost after the free trial?
After your first 30 days, PaprBoard is $5/month, or $50/year — which works out to two months free. The subscription mainly goes toward hosting, market-data, and the other running costs that keep the service online — it's priced to keep PaprBoard sustainable, not to turn a profit.
How do I get started with my own data?
Go to Upload Data in the sidebar. You can either upload an IBKR statement file (CSV or XML) you've exported, or connect IBKR's Flex Web Service to download it automatically. The page walks you through both.
Accounts, Privacy & Data
What's the difference between a guest session and signing in?
A guest session lets you try everything without an account, but the data is temporary and may be lost when you close your browser. Creating an account (just an email) or signing in with Google stores your data securely so it's there every time you come back.
Does PaprBoard ever place trades or move my money?
No. PaprBoard is strictly read-only analytics. It only reads the statement data you import — it never places trades, transfers funds, or has any ability to act on your brokerage account.
What personal information does PaprBoard collect?
Beyond an email to create an account, none. We never ask for any sensitive personal or financial details — no IBKR password or login, no bank account or card numbers, no Social Security or tax ID, and no home address or government documents. The statement you upload is used purely to calculate your trading analytics, and everything stays private to your account.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Your trades, positions, and notes are synced to secure cloud storage and tied to your account, and PaprBoard only ever works with your trading data. If you connect Flex Web Service, your IBKR token is stored securely and used only to download your statements for you.
How do I delete my data?
On the Upload Data page you can delete an individual statement (which removes the trades that came with it) or use Delete All Data to permanently wipe every statement, trade, position, tag, and note. Deletions cannot be undone.
I forgot my password — how do I reset it?
On the sign-in screen, choose "Forgot password?" and we'll email you a reset link or a 6-digit code. Enter it along with your new password to regain access.
Uploading & Importing from IBKR
What file formats can I upload?
Two options: an IBKR Activity Statement in CSV format, or a Flex Query export in XML format. Both are produced from the IBKR Client Portal.
How do I export a statement from IBKR?
Log in to the IBKR Client Portal → Performance & Reports → Statements. Choose Activity Statement, click Run, set the language to English and the format to CSV, then download the file and upload it here.
What is Flex Web Service, and how is it different from uploading a file?
Flex Web Service connects to IBKR with a token and Query ID so PaprBoard can download your statement automatically — including daily background syncs — instead of you exporting and uploading a file each time. You set it up once in the IBKR Client Portal under Flex Queries, then paste your Token and Query ID into the Flex Web Query tab. For best results, set up two queries: an Activity Flex Query for your full history and P&L, and a Trade Confirmation Flex Query so today's trades import in realtime.
What is the Trade Confirmation Query ID, and do I need it?
It's a second, recommended Flex Query that reports trades the moment they execute, instead of waiting for IBKR to finalize the trading day. In the IBKR Client Portal, go to Performance & Reports → Flex Queries, create a Trade Confirmation Flex Query with the Delivery Format set to XML, and paste its Query ID into the Trade Confirmation field on the Flex Web Query tab. Both queries together give the full picture: the Activity query remains the source of your history and P&L, while the Trade Confirmation query adds today's fills in realtime. PaprBoard reconciles the two automatically, so nothing is double-counted when the same trades later appear in the activity statement.
Why don't today's trades show up after a sync?
The Activity query only covers up to the previous business day, because IBKR finalizes a trading day's activity after the market closes. To see today's trades in realtime, create a Trade Confirmation Flex Query in IBKR and add its ID on the Upload Data page — every sync will then import today's fills too.
Some of my recent trades are missing — why?
Your Flex Query is probably using a fixed period like "Last Business Week," which can leave out trades from the current week. Edit the query in IBKR and set the Period to "Last 30 Calendar Days" so recent trades are always included.
Can I upload more than one year of history?
IBKR limits each export to one year of data. To load multiple years, export and upload a separate file for each calendar year (Jan 1 to Dec 31 works best). PaprBoard merges them together for you.
What happens if I upload the same statement twice?
PaprBoard detects duplicate trades and discards them automatically, so overlapping date ranges won't double-count. After each upload you'll see how many new trades were added and how many duplicates were ignored.
Which report sections does my statement need to include?
For a complete analysis, make sure the statement contains: Account Info, Net Asset Value, Change in NAV, Open Positions, Trades, P/L Summary, and Cash Transactions.
Understanding the Numbers
What's the difference between Realized and Unrealized P&L?
Realized P&L is profit or loss you've locked in by closing a position. Unrealized P&L is the paper gain or loss on positions you still hold, based on the latest market price. Total P&L combines both.
What do the industry stats at the top of the Positions page show?
The "Allocation by Industry" box groups your open positions by industry. Each industry shows two numbers: its total % of Net Liq (the sum of each position's share of your account value), and its Daily P% — the average daily move of the positions in that industry, weighted by how large each position is. Hover an industry to see the individual symbols behind it. The "Open Positions Today" box applies the same weighted average across all positions, so you can compare each industry against your portfolio as a whole. The footer line (e.g. "83% of Net Liq · 41 positions") tells you how much of your total account value (positions + cash) is currently in open positions — the remainder is cash and other balances. It is not a fraction of your positions: all open positions are always included. It also means the Daily P% reflects the move of your holdings, not your whole account — if only half your account is invested, the account-level impact is roughly half the shown figure.
What is Time-Weighted Return (TWR)?
TWR measures the performance of your investments while removing the distorting effect of deposits and withdrawals. It's the fairest way to judge how well your trading decisions performed, independent of how much money you added or took out.
What do Win Rate, Profit Factor, and Expectancy tell me?
Win Rate is the share of closed trades that were profitable. Profit Factor is gross profits divided by gross losses (above 1.0 means you're net profitable). Expectancy is the average profit or loss you can expect per trade. Together they describe the quality and consistency of your edge.
What is SYEP / Securities Lent?
SYEP is IBKR's Stock Yield Enhancement Program, where IBKR borrows shares you own and pays you income for lending them. The Securities Lent page tracks which shares are on loan, the collateral, and the income you've earned.
What's included in Income & Costs?
It breaks down the non-trading parts of your account: dividends received, SYEP lending income, and interest earned, against the commissions and fees you paid. This shows how much of your return comes from sources other than capital gains.
Features & How-To
What does Ticker Analysis do?
Search any symbol to see your realized and unrealized P&L on it, your full trade history, win rate, and — pulled from market data — the next earnings date, the analyst target price, and the consensus recommendation.
What's on the Calendar page?
It shows upcoming earnings dates for the symbols in your open positions, plus a macroeconomic calendar of major events, so you can see what's coming up for your holdings at a glance.
Where does the News come from?
News headlines are pulled automatically for your open positions from Yahoo Finance. You can add extra symbols on the News page to follow them too, and group headlines by symbol or by date.
What is the Daily Analysis page for?
It summarizes each trading day — total trades, gross value, average trades per day, and realized P&L — alongside a chronological trade stream. You can also write a journal note for the week to capture lessons and observations.
What does the Funds page show?
It's a log of money moving in and out of your account: deposits and withdrawals, with totals and a net figure, so you can separate cash flow from actual trading performance.
Can I rearrange or hide table columns?
Yes. Tables support drag-and-drop column reordering, and you can show or hide columns from the Columns menu. Your layout is saved to your account, so it stays the same next time.
Can I change the language?
Yes — open Settings from the sidebar to switch between English, 中文, and Français.
Where do prices and market data come from?
Live prices, charts, earnings dates, and analyst data come from Yahoo Finance. To stay fast, some of this data is cached for up to 24 hours, so prices may lag the live market slightly.
Troubleshooting
A page says "No Analytics Data Found." What do I do?
That means there's no statement data to analyze yet. Go to Upload Data and import an IBKR statement (or reload the demo data), and the dashboards will populate.
My prices or unrealized P&L look out of date.
Market data is cached for up to 24 hours to keep the app fast, so quotes can lag the live market. Realized P&L from your statements is always exact; only live, unrealized figures depend on cached prices.
I uploaded a statement but my numbers look wrong.
Double-check that your statement included all the required sections (Account Info, NAV, Change in NAV, Open Positions, Trades, P/L Summary, Cash Transactions) and that the date range covers the trades you expect. If something still looks off, reach out from the Support page with a screenshot.
I still need help.
Head to the Support page and email us. Including a screenshot or screen recording helps us diagnose the issue much faster.
